Ever since Chris Whitehouse became Chairman all those years ago, he has been the motivating force behind the League’s rapid development. Or perhaps we should say ‘the rock,’ since it was he who helped build the very foundations that have made the NEC League such a success. And who but Chris Whitehouse would have had the fortitude to deal with the slings and arrows that have assailed his committee on the ‘odd’ occasion? And who but Chris would have driven all those initiatives; the Annual Dinner & Awards event, the introduction of the website, the festivals, finals day, and much more?
At the AGM, Chris attributed much of the League’s success to the support he received from two stalwarts of the organisation. President, Derek Warne, and Hon. Treas., James Gibson, have been with Chris all the way through and have been a constant source of help and guidance to him; but we all know that without his utter commitment to the League and it’s fraternity, we would not command the high regard from the youth cricket community around the country that we currently enjoy. Chris has indeed, been part of the lifeblood of this organisation and the NEC League will be a much emptier place without him.
Although we are saying goodbye to Chris, we’re sure we have not seen the last of him. After all he’s only sneaking away to the south coast, not joining a Trappist community! There will be many opportunities for him to join us in the coming seasons and we’re sure that we will be turning to him for words of wisdom on more than the odd occasion!
On a final note, Chris, we would like to wish you all the very best on behalf of all the clubs and all those directly involved in the NEC League’s cricket.
We really hope you have a wonderful time doing whatever! Good luck and let us all wish Chris and Margaret, “the life of Old Reilly!” |
